In every romance film, there is a clear structure to the way the movie is going to go. The girl meets a boy and they fall in love. Then they get in a big fight, but the two always make up in the end. For singer-songwriter Nicole Kiki Jaffe things have not exactly been like the movies. Her latest single “Let Me Fall Apart” is a stunning, emotive track with soft, passionate vocals and delicate instrumentation. The song narrates her deep-seated fear of saying I love you. The anxiety surrounding those words stemmed from one of her first relationships where the person said I love you too quickly. Jaffe admits, “All of this was followed by a super abrupt breakup, and it was the second time we’d dated. Joke’s on me, I guess. Anyways, from then on every “I love you” I received was followed by a fairly speedy ending of the relationship. It’s left me with a pretty sizable fear of those three little words.” Unlike the love stories you see on screen, this isn’t followed by some grand reconciliation. “Let Me Fall Apart” is her way of processing this strange pattern that’s formed in hopes of attempting to break the cycle.

Ever since Jaffe was young, she’s had an immense love for singing and musical theater. In high school, she would perform in her school plays and felt at home on the stage. She honed in on her musical craft in college. After ending a tumultuous romance her songwriting really flourished as she used that experience as an outlet for her pain. Take a listen to “Let Me Fall Apart” and get lost in the profound, raw emotions.
