Tolliver addresses pettiness with shimmering retro visuals
Radiant R&B that oozes with a fierce passion, bisexual soul singer Tolliver unleashes his sassy side in his latest single. Entitled “Petty”, the song highlights groovy arrangements and feisty falsetto, yet also showcasing baritone vocals a la Barry White. The boisterous track is a response to his roommate abruptly informing him that he had to move out. Using music as a healthy outlet for his anger, the singer admits, “The lyrics are me puffing my chest. I’ve never beat anyone’s ass in my life, but it’s fun to fantasize.”
Growing up with a Baptist father and a mother who sang gospel, Chicago native Tolliver’s deep love for music began with his Sundays spent at church. Constantly quoting the bible, he holds tightly to his religious roots. Surprisingly though, he can display a more indulgent and sexual side as well. When he moved to LA, in order to make ends meet, he took a job editing gay pornography as well as writing for blogs. It is no wonder his classic, funky 70s-esque sound oozes with so much sensuality.
